           Welcome to Call to Decision

We have met the enemy -- and it is US!

Larry A. Jones

"Bush lied, people died!"

"Cheney gets richer off the war!"

"Rumsfeld sacrifices your sons and daughters to the God of Greed!"

"Bush bypasses court to spy on you!"

"Bush says Constitution is " just a piece of paper!"

These are actual headlines, not from the mainstream media but from 'blogs' across the internet. Unfortunately, most Americans still get their 'news' from mainstream media sources and its only the headlines and sound bites that attract their attention -- you know, the important news: "Brad to adopt Angelina's children"

It's not that the important stories have not been covered by mainstream media, they have; but they have been presented in a low key, non-emphatic sort of way that fails to stir up the outrage every American should be feeling at this time.

HOW DARE Bush & Co. get richer off the bodies of our soldiers in an endless war they created? HOW DARE Cheney attempt to justify the use of torture? HOW DARE Bush authorize the use of warrantless wiretaps and do a run-around the Constitution and the courts? HOW DARE he say the Constitution is just "a piece of paper?" HOW DARE he state that because he's 'commander-in-chief' the laws do not apply to him?

HOW DARE? Because we DON'T CARE!

If we cared, the switchboard at Congress would be jammed with irate callers. Furious e-mails and faxes would have filled the rooms and bags of letters demanding the impeachment of President Bush would be pouring into every Senator and Representative office.

If we cared, newspapers would have to print extra editions to contain the outrage expressed in letters to the editor demanding action against those who would destroy our freedoms with impunity.

Bolstered by our collective silence, Bush & Co. continue on with new and more egregious behavior -- daring us to care and confident we won't.

Instead, ignorance and apathy have combined to the point that only a few voices in the wilderness can be heard, and then only if one cares enough to listen.

On departing the Constitutional Convention, Benjamin Franklin was asked, "what have you created?" He replied, "a republic, if you can keep it."

If we at last fail to keep our republic, we will not be able to blame the British, or the Confederacy, or the Germans, or the Nazis, or the Communist hoardes, or terrorists. If we fail to keep our republic it will be because we quit caring about it. We allowed ourselves to become ignorant and complacent, trusting fools -- totally willing to allow the government to do our thinking for us and carry us along from cradle to grave on false entitlements and pretty promises.

The 2004 election was a sham. Do we care? Apparently not. The 2008 election was a fraud. Do we care? Apparently not. Bush is a lying, meglamaniac who has surrounded himself with lying meglamaniacs. Do we care? Apparently not. Our Congress is filled with bribe takers, selling their souls to the highest bidder. Do we care? Apparently not. Our Supreme Court cares no more for our Constitution than does the President. Do we care? Apparently not.

Pogo was right. We have met the real enemy of our republic, and it is us!

God save this republic -- because it's clear we won't even try.
