President Bush, Weapons of Mass Destruction, and the Holy Spirit:
the Meaning Behind the Iraqi War Intelligence Failure

 

(Christian Gallery News Service, January 25, 2007)  This article explains why President George W. Bush's mistake about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction (WMD) proves that at the most critical point in his Presidency he lost his access to the Holy Spirit of God.  You will take the time to see whether the evidence is truthful or not if you want to avoid what happened to President George W. Bush.

"...THERE WAS AN INTELLIGENCE FAILURE..."

George W. Bush was interviewed on 60 Minutes on January 14, 2007 where he was asked why he was wrong about Iraq having weapons of mass destruction.

60 Minutes Correspondent PELLEY: You seem to be saying that you may have been wrong but you weren't dishonest.

BUSH: Oh, absolutely. Everybody was wrong on weapons of mass destruction. I would ask people to go back and look at the comments of many of the Democrat leadership prior to my arrival in Washington, DC, people who'd looked at the same intelligence I looked at. I'd look at the people's comments when the run-up to the war. They had looked at the same intelligence I had looked at. It was pretty well universally thought he had weapons. And there was an intelligence failure, which we're trying to address. But I was as surprised as anybody he didn't have them.

If you examine President Bush's words above, you will see that not only was there an intelligence failure prior to the latest Iraqi War, there is a continuing intelligence failure as well.  To see the continuing intelligence failure, look at the President's words: "Everybody was wrong on weapons of mass destruction..." he said.

EVERYBODY WAS NOT WRONG

Any referee unbound by previous financial commitments would blow a foul on the President.  Everybody was not wrong on weapons of mass destruction.  Prior to the latest Iraqi War, the entire communication mechanism of the government of Iraq consistently and, as it turns out, accurately denied having weapons of mass destructions.  There are hundreds of documents proving this point so I'll only cite one.  On February 26, 2003, Paula Zann, CNN Anchor said, "More now on our top story. Saddam Hussein denies Iraq has missiles that actually violate U.N. rules. The denial comes as President Bush applies even more pressure, challenging the United Nations to honor its word and disarm Baghdad."

Admitting that Saddam Hussein was the wrongest among all the wrong people in the history of the world, agreeing that he was the most evil evildoer of all the evildoers of all time, does not change the fact that Saddam Hussein was right about ONE thing: WMD.

Not to beat a dead dictator, but it must be seen that in response to President Bush's accusation that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, Saddam Hussein and all his agents never faltered: both while Saddam Hussein was President of Iraq as well as after he became an American prisoner, he tried to tell everyone that Iraq did not have weapons of mass destruction.  On December 15, 2003, shortly after his capture, CNN reported, "Saddam...asserted to interrogators that the United States invented the presence of WMD to justify the invasion of his country, Time magazine correspondent Brian Bennett told CNN, quoting a U.S. official in Iraq who had seen an initial interrogation report."

In response to Iraq's denials that it possessed WMD the federal government of the USA did everything in its power to convince everybody in the world Iraq was lying.  For example, in response to Saddam Hussein's denials of WMD, the Department of Defense of the USA that took its orders from POTUS, issued world class press briefings filled with totally false claims about WMD like this one entitled "DoD Briefing on Iraqi Denial and Deception" presented at the Pentagon on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002 - 12:58 p.m. EDT: http://www.globalsecurity.org/wmd/library/news/iraq/2002/iraq-021008-dod01.htm

So let's face it: Everybody was not wrong: the federal government of the USA was wrong.

Since the President was as wrong as a man can be about why he put thousands of American soldiers in a place where they would be killed, the question jumps out: why is President Bush's false excuse for the war in Iraq not blowing up in his face? 

Turns out the President is able to get away with making patently false statements like the one he made in the 60 Minutes interview for two reasons: 1. he claims to have made made an honest mistake; 2.  Saddam Hussein deserved to have his sorry neck broken anyway.

1.  IT WAS AN "HONEST" MISTAKE

CBS Correspondent PELLEY: You seem to be saying that you may have been wrong but you weren't dishonest.

BUSH: Oh, absolutely. Everybody was wrong on weapons of mass destruction.

The British magazine, The Economist, on Jan 29th 2004, summarized the problem President Bush was trying to explain when it noted, "The absence of these weapons is more than just an embarrassment. It raises the question of whether this war was fought on a false prospectus. Above all, did the president of the United States and the British prime minister lie?  So far, the answer seems to be no. Not a scrap of evidence has emerged since the war to suggest that Mr Bush or Mr Blair doubted the truth of their central claim..."

Reread the section from President Bush's interview above and you will see that President Bush today justifies any errors that might have been made in Iraq by claiming the errors were not caused by dishonesty, but were caused by "honest" mistakes, mistakes that every one of the President's advisers shared in.  And as the President says, he doesn't even owe anybody an apology.

2.  NOT ONLY WAS THE PRESIDENT HONEST, HE ENDED UP DOING THE RIGHT THING ANYWAY

"My decision to remove Saddam Hussein was the correct decision in my judgment. We didn't find the weapons we thought we would find or the weapons everybody thought he had. But he was a significant source of instability...I am proud of the efforts we did. We liberated that country from a tyrant. I think the Iraqi people owe the American people a huge debt of gratitude, and I believe most Iraqis express that. I mean, the people understand that we've endured great sacrifice to help them. .."

Since the President leads a nation where the vast majority think Saddam Hussein and the regime he headed should have been destroyed, the moral of the story of Weapons of Mass Destruction is not even a world-class "OOPS!" but in fact a "Praise the Lord, See How God Leads Us To Do The Right Thing Even When We Are Totally Wrong About the Premises Behind Our Actions."

But before we go to far in praising the Lord, we should take a long hard look at what actually happened.

WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT AND WHAT DOES HE HAVE TO DO WITH WMD?

To answer the question about how the President of the United States could have been in error about something as important as the primary reason for invading Iraq, we must learn what the Bible teaches about the Holy Spirit.

^{John 14: 16And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.John 14:26But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 15:26But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:}

Perception of the Truth Is the Fundamental Gift of the Spirit of God

If you will think about the description above where the Lord Jesus Christ describes the Holy Spirit, you will see that the Lord is telling us it is the Holy Spirit who is responsible for any person's ability to perceive the truth about anything in reality.  Where I went to school, a man named Cornelius Van Til described the Holy Spirit to be like a bank where all the truth in the universe was kept on deposit.  Any time a person perceived any aspect of the truth, whether it be through using the scientific method or through using some other method of less formal intuition, the truth that was seen was being withdrawn from God's bank and God Himself was allowing the withdrawal through making the Holy Spirit available in that truth transaction.   In that sense the perception of any truth at all was the fundamental gift of the Spirit of God.

PRESIDENT BUSH AND THE HOLY SPIRIT

What does all this show us about President Bush and the Holy Spirit?  Since the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth, at a minimum that means the Holy Spirit knew full well exactly what was in Saddam Hussein's arsenal.  If President Bush had been in a right relationship with the Holy Spirit, he would not have had to depend on an army of advisors, all of whom turned out to be wrong, he would have had access to the One who could be trusted to guide him into the truth.  That's what the Holy Spirit does for a living: He guides people into the truth.  If the President of the USA had the Holy Spirit in his circle of advisers either the Lord Jesus Christ is lying or President Bush would not have made the crucial, deadly error of fact that was used to justify the present War in Iraq.

So what happened to President Bush's relationship to the Holy Spirit?

The answer is easy to see.  He was warned to make sure he kept himself in good graces with the Holy Spirit: he failed to heed that warning.

The Apostle Paul told him, "Eph. 4:30 "And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption."  Isaiah tells us what had to happen for the President of the USA to become so separated from the Spirit of truth that he would have taken this nation to deadly warfare based on false information.  Isaiah explained what happens to such people. "But they rebelled, and vexed his holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them." Isaiah 63:10

These are only the short list of the ways this nation has rebelled against God.

The sitting President of the United States of America has done nothing to stop those abominations for over six years.  Instead he has effectively ignored them and gone about the business of trying to force the rest of this world to conform itself to the standards and the form of government presently existing in the USA, a form of government that not only embraces but protects what God defines as abomination.  In short, the President of the USA, who claims to be a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ, has failed to honor God as God except in word only.  Refusing to defend God in deed, the President of the USA has led this nation into a time when the warnings of the Bible begin to be fulfilled in our midst.

In Romans 1, the Apostle Paul warned what would happen to people who refused to honor God as God. 

"Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.  Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them."   Romans 1:21-32

DON'T BELIEVE IT?  ASK THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD
